Code of Conduct

Purpose

The We Speak Games Summit’s mission is broad and inclusive. We believe that our conference should be truly open for everyone. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for all regardless of race, gender, gender expression or gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, or any other prohibited grounds of discrimination.

This Code of Conduct outlines our commitment to you, as well as our expectations for participant behaviour and the consequences of unacceptable behavior.

We want everyone involved to feel safe and respected. We invite all sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, media, and other guests (collectively, “Participants”) to help us realise a safe and positive conference experience for everyone.

Expected Behavior

Be considerate and respectful of all cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.

Be collaborative and endeavor to resolve misunderstandings directly, through open dialogue and respectful feedback.

Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.

Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow Participants. Alert conference organizers if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress.

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behaviors include (but is not limited to):

  • Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct;

  • Offensive verbal or written comments relating to gender, gender expression or gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, age, religion, or any other prohibited grounds of discrimination;

  • Inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides);

  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following;

  • Harassing photography or recording;

  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events;

  • Inappropriate physical contact; and

  • Unwelcome sexual attention.

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior by Participants will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.

If a Participant engages in unacceptable behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the conference without warning or refund and/or referring the matter over to local authorities.

What to Do If You Witness or Are Subject to Unacceptable Behavior

If you are subject to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behavior, or have concerns that this Code of Conduct is not being followed, please notify a conference organizer as soon as possible (see contact information below). All reports will remain completely confidential.

The We Speak Games Summit organiser(s) (Georgie Crawshaw and Web App Services) will determine and carry out the appropriate course of action, and will be available to help Participants experiencing unacceptable behaviour feel safe for the duration of the conference.

Scope

We expect all Participants to abide by this Code of Conduct during the We Speak Games Summit, whether participating in-person or online, including conference-related social events.
